Karachi, Female candidates once again outshined over male candidates in intermediate exams. Girls scored top two positions for the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi BIEK) Annual Examinations-2011.
Controller Examinations BIEK Muhammad Imran Khan Chishti announced the results for the Commerce (Regular), Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC), Part-II, Home Economics HSC Part-I and Diploma in Physical Education Annual Examinations-2011.
Asifa Aziz, a student of the DHA Women’s Degree College, roll number 232733 managed to clinch first position by securing 939 marks out of a total 11,000 at 85.36 percent, while another female student named Fazilat Babar took second place with 937 marks at 85.18 percent.
The first position holder, Asifa, believed that there is an urgent need for a uniform education system in the country as it would eradicate class differences, an issue that has overwhelmed numerous students from lower income groups. Fazilat, Second position holder said that rote-learning would not help students as it would not serve as a long lasting technique. Students must get into the habit of learning, she advised.
Muhammad Saim Mumtaz from the Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences, roll number 217308, secured third position with 925 marks at a percentage of 84.09.
“We must focus on becoming educated people and not just study for the purpose of achieving high grades and enhancing our reputation,” Mumtaz said.
According to the gazette issued, 18,835 male candidates had registered while 18,664 appeared in the annual papers for Commerce (Regular). Out of the total, 9,329 candidates managed to get passing grade, which equates to a percentage of 49.98. The gazette also showed that 14,114 female students had registered and 14,002 candidates appeared in the exams. As many as 8,582 students had passed which was a percentage 61.29. At least 33 male candidates secured the A-One grade, while 473 students had A-grades and 1,379 candidates managed a B-grade in their exams.
Board officials mentioned that 42 cases of unfair means were reported during and after the examinations. The results of such candidates were withheld till a final decision on their fate was reached by the Board of Governors. Meanwhile, 3,259 students passed their exams with a C-grade, and 3, 786 secured D-grades, while 399 candidates got the E-grade.
The controller examinations mentioned that 58 female students passed with an A-One grade, while 867 candidates secured the A- grade in their exams. In addition, 2,326 students received B-grades, while 3,331 candidates passed their exams with C-grade and 1,900 students and 100 candidates managed D and E-grades respectively, Chishti said.
Furthermore, 22 candidates were registered for the annual exams of Diploma in Physical Education and 17 managed a passing great, with a percentage of 77.27.
