According to a study conducted by the University of Sydney, those children who spend a lot of their timewatching television are actually increasing the risk of heart disease with high blood pressure and diabetes later in life. The study revealed that the children watching a lot of television have narrower arteries in the back of their eyes, especially the ones who are six to seven year olds.
The role of parents is important here of course. The study found that on average, the children spent around 1.9 hours watching television and just around 36 minutes in an organized physical activity. The ones who did spend more time than an hour on a physical activity have been found to have wider retinal arteries on average.
Such an unhealthy lifestyle affects the microcirculation in life from an early age increasing heart related risks. Watching a lot of television also affects our eating habits and our weight subsequently. The schools should help promote children’s physical activities with at least two hours weekly session for outdoor games and such stuff.
